2017 BCABBA BC Cup Bodybuilding, Physique, Fitness, Figure & Bikini Championships (New Westminster, B.C. - May 20, 2017) The second year of this Traditional Stream (tested) Provincial Championships saw a 40% rise in the number of competitors as the BCABBA have solidified the two "feeder" shows. Promoters Dean and Leigh Brandt (plus all the volunteers) put on a well run show from both the athletes' and spectators' perspectives. In Bikini, Tarah Craig's (Van City Showdown Champ) proportionality and very balanced look won the day. Kudos to those who'd "kept it together" since a qualifying show 2 weeks earlier, notably Jordyn Kreller winning her class and Meghan Dewar placing second to Tarah. Masters saw Ami Mills return to the stage in fine form, extremely competitive classes. Overall Men's Physique winner Kevin Rai had just competed at Nationals two weeks earlier, and having to requalify made a real statement...and he had to be good to beat Kelowna Classic champ Ali Yekta (who incidentally won Overall Classic Bodybuilding here). Turning to Figure, in an anomaly of sorts, Figure Masters Overall Champion Crystal Gretz bested the Open Overall Champion in their Masters Class, yet did not compete in Open (perhaps didn't qualify in open to get here? Not sure). Nicely detailed physique (photo below)! Mixed pairs were a welcome addition here, as were two strong fitness competitors. Breanna Watkins had won the Van City Showdown in this division.
